Emergency Plumbing in Newcastle
Burst Pipe Repairs Newcastle
Water coming through a ceiling at midnight does not book in ahead. Our emergency crew handles burst pipes across the city centre, from a split flexi hose in a Honeysuckle tower to a cracked galvanised run in a pre-1940 terrace.
Ring (02) 4063 3461 the moment you find water where it should not be.
Still working out what you need? The main Newcastle page covers every service we run, and the emergency plumbing hub explains what counts as an after-hours call.
What a burst pipe looks like in the moment
Water escaping where it should not. That is the whole definition, and it arrives in a few standard forms.
- A flexi hose behind a laundry or kitchen cabinet lets go and sprays until someone shuts it off.
- An old galvanised pipe splits at a joint and dumps water inside a wall or ceiling.
- A visible drip from an external pipe that has corroded through, often worse after rain.
- A sudden drop in pressure with no leak you can see.
The last one catches people out. If pressure across the whole property drops, suspect a leak on the supply line and get it checked before it opens up.
What causes pipes to burst here
Causes run from simple to involved, so it pays to know which one you are likely facing.
A failed flexi hose
Salt corrosion
Old galvanised runs
Building movement
Pressure spikes
What you can safely check first
Shut off the water before anything else. The main stop tap is usually at the front boundary near the water meter, or in the laundry. Turn it clockwise until it stops. Every litre you prevent now is damage you do not have to fix.
Then, with the water off:
- Open the lowest tap in the property to drain what is left in the pipes.
- Move rugs, boxes and valuables clear of the wet zone before it spreads toward a neighbour's ceiling.
- Take photos of the leak and the damage while everything is still in place.
- Keep clear of the wet areas until we arrive, and keep everyone out of rooms where water is still dripping or running.
One thing not to do: do not try to seal a split pipe with tape or clamps. It rarely holds, and it often makes the eventual repair messier.
Do not wait on this
When to ring instead of waiting
- Call straight away If water is pouring through a ceiling, flooding a downstairs neighbour's home or coming out faster than a towel can handle.
- Call the same day, not at midnight If the leak is a controlled drip you have isolated. A weeping joint with the supply shut off can wait for daylight without turning into a rebuild.
Not sure which side your leak falls on? Ring (02) 4063 3461 and describe it. We would rather tell you it can wait than have you guess wrong.
What happens when we arrive
- 1
Isolate, locate, repair, prove
The supply gets shut off or isolated to the failed section first, because stopping the water outranks everything else. Then we find the fault, which is rarely where the water shows up.
- 2
Then the repair itself
A split flexi hose is a swap-out with a quality replacement. A failed galvanised section gets either a section repair or a conversation about replacing the run, because one failed joint usually means the rest is on borrowed time. You get both options with prices and make the call.
Before we leave, the repaired section is pressure-tested, the supply is restored, and you get the job explained in plain words, including anything worth watching.
What the repair costs
Nothing to find out. The call out is free, and you approve a written quote before any work starts.
Access is the big variable. A hose behind a cupboard door is a ten-minute swap, while a failed run inside a double-brick heritage wall means careful locating and a smaller, slower opening. That difference shows up in the quote, not as a surprise on the invoice.

- 3
Stop and fix the pipe
We isolate the failed section, repair or replace it with materials that suit the building's age, and pressure-test the line before your water goes back on.
- 4
Backed, no questions asked
If something isn't up to standard afterwards, we come back and make it right, no questions asked. That's the standard every Newcastle job is held to.

Questions people ask about burst pipes
How do I shut the water off in an apartment?
Try the isolation tap under the laundry tub or kitchen sink first. In a high-rise, the stop valve is usually in a plant room or floor cupboard, and we talk you through it.
Is a small drip from a pipe still urgent?
Treat it as urgent. A weeping joint usually means the pipe wall is thinning, and those go from drip to split with little warning. Fixing a joint beats drying out a wall.
Can you repair pipes in older heritage terraces?
Yes. Buildings around Hunter and King Streets often carry dated internal runs, and double-brick walls need careful access. We find the fault first and make the smallest sensible opening.
How much does a burst pipe repair cost?
The call out costs nothing and the price is agreed in writing before work begins. The figure depends on where the pipe runs and how difficult the access is.
Do you handle bursts in strata and commercial buildings?
Yes. Shared stacks, plant rooms and shopfronts are regular work. We photograph the fault and the repair so your body corporate or property manager has a proper record.
What if the burst is behind a wall or under a floor?
We trace the leak with detection gear before opening anything, so the opening is small and lands in the right spot. The fault is rarely under the wet patch.
